16 Watt High Power LED

For the serious hobbyists and developers we have decided to offer one of the highest power LEDs currently on the market.

It is a 16 watt LED light Engine capable of producing around 1,150 lumens of light, which is equivalent to that given by a 45-50 watt halogen.

We feel the best selling point of this LED is that it can be connected directly to a 12vdc (regulated) power supply (or battery) without any resistors. However we must point out that running the LED directly from 12vdc may have a bearing on it's lifetime, due to the nature of LEDs the maximum votage can fluctuate between 10.5 - 12.9vdc.

No UV Radiation.

The junction temperature needs to be kept well below 120° C so the LED must be mounted to a suitable Heatsink or Aluminium plate with enough surface area to dissipate the heat. If not the LED s lifetime will be greatly reduced

This LED lends itself very well to many applications, for example aquarium lighting where the LED could easily be fitted to the hood of the tank which are normally aluminium. The surface area (350cm2) of the average fishtank hood will be more than adequate for 1 of these light engines.

* If you are running the LED from a vehicle, to keep within the LEDs tolerance and provide a 50,000 lifetime a resistor (1.5 ohms 3w capable) is advised, as a vehicles voltage is regulated to approx.13.8vdc but can spike above this.
