Frequently Asked Questions about LED Light Strip & Tape
LED Strip & LED Tape - Frequently Asked Questions
What type of LEDs are used on your LED Strips and LED Tape?
We only use premium branded LEDs such as Samsung 5630 or Epistar 5050 SMD LEDs. Most of our LED strips use 5050 SMD Chips, which feature three emitters per LED for superior brightness and colour consistency.
Is your LED Strip safe to use?
Yes—absolutely safe. Litewave® has specialised in LED lighting since 2007. With over 18 years of experience, we ensure that all of our LED Strips are engineered properly to handle the required electrical current safely and reliably. We only offer LED Strips that meet our strict performance and safety standards.
Why does your Litewave LED Strip cost more than others I’ve seen online?
Many cheaper LED strips use basic circuits without Constant Current technology, meaning they will begin to fade after just 1,000 hours of use, regardless of which LEDs they use. Litewave® Architectural LED Strips are designed to maintain their brightness for over 75,000 hours, thanks to our advanced Constant Current Regulation and up to 130 additional components per metre for protection. Our Strips have a mere 3% decline in brightness after 10,000 hours.
🔧 Our Waterproof LED Strips feature a protective coatings with UV-stable silicone encapsulation—far more durable than cheaper resin-coated alternatives that crack, discolour, or smell unpleasant over time.
💡 LEDs from Epistar (Established 1996, Taiwan):
For over 15 years, we’ve trusted Epistar LEDs for their proven long life
In contrast, many cheap LED strips use counterfeit or substandard LEDs mounted on thin circuit boards with poor heat dissipation. These often suffer from fading, colour inconsistency, and early failure—sometimes within just 2–3 months. Cheap LED strips are generally designed for temporary use, such as seasonal decorations.
For professional installations or long-term use, Litewave® Architectural Strips are the smart, cost-effective investment.

Do LED Strips need drivers or transformers?
Yes. Most LED strips operate at 12V DC, so they require a power supply (transformer) to convert mains 240V AC to a safe 12V DC.
For RGB or Colour Changing LED Strips, you’ll also need a Colour Controller, such as our Lightbox, which allows intuitive control from your phone or tablet.
How far can the LED Strip be installed from the Power Supply?
We recommend installations be no more than 15 metres away from the power supply for optimal performance.
Don’t worry—we’ll provide tailored cable guidance depending on your setup when you place your order.
Can LED Strip be dimmed?
Absolutely.
For single-colour LED Strip, you can dim using either a 12V DC Dimmer or one of our Mains Dimmable Transformers paired with a Varilight V-Pro Dimmer Module for control via a traditional wall plate.
For Colour Changing LED Strips, our Lightbox Controller provides full dimming and colour intensity control, complete with automatic memory for your last setting. This makes it ideal for use with wall switches or PIR motion sensors.
What is the maximum length of LED Strip that can be powered?
We can supply LED Strip in custom lengths to suit projects of any size—from a small bathroom to large commercial buildings.
✅ Our largest installation to date controlled over 1,200 metres of LED Strip from a single system.
How much LED Strip can one Power Supply run?
With one 12.5A Power Supply, you can run up to 37 metres of our Litewave® Architectural LED Strip.
Is your LED Strip waterproof?
Yes—we offer both waterproof and non-waterproof versions, clearly marked on each product listing.
Our Waterproof LED Strips are designed for bathrooms, outdoor installations, and environments exposed to sunlight. They feature UV-resistant, non-yellowing silicone encapsulation that won’t crack or develop black marks over time—unlike cheaper resin-coated alternatives.
